I’m always on the lookout for helpful resources for my maternity clients, and information about exercise during pregnancy is a common request! So much is shifting in your body, and taking charge of that process can really help you feel less powerless amidst all these changes. One program that can help is One Strong Mama, an exercise program for pregnant women. It’s run by Lindsay, and exercise physiologist and birth doula, and Lauren, a childbirth educator and Yoga + Pilates teacher specializing in core and pelvic floor issues. I asked them to tell me a bit more about their program.

One Strong Mama – Exercise During Pregnancy

What prompted you to open your business?

There was nobody really offering what we offered. As experts in birth, pregnancy, AND exercise we melded those two worlds together to create something that helps prepare the body for birth and helps the pelvic floor, core, and whole body remain strong and functional throughout this journey of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

There are many talking about how to stay “fit” during pregnancy, but nobody is really helping moms in a more specific and strategic way of truly remaining functional and prepare for an easier birth experience.

What sets you apart from your competitors?

We have amazing testimonials of those going through the One Strong Mama program and having easier birthing experiences, pregnancies free of a lot of the “common” complaints like back pain, incontinence, etc, and having really great postpartum experiences and cores that are able to rehab quickly and not experience the persistent diastasis recti (abdominal separation) that so many are struggling with.

We are Prehab – preventing a lot of issues that we are told are just par the course.

Are there any misconceptions about exercise during pregnancy, or things you wish people understood better?

Mostly, there is a lack of awareness. We are either told to kegel or to squat and there is not a lot more told about how to prepare the body for birth.

There is also a lot of misunderstanding and misinformation about what to do for pelvic floor and core health and a lot of people think that there is nothing they can do about these issues. Yet there is so much you can do!!

Are there services or products you hope to add in the future?

We are committed to being THE best prenatal/postnatal exercise program out there, so with that inevitably will be additions to the program. Those additions are always given to those who already own the program.
